During an intimate zoom performance on Sunday afternoon, Chloe Temstein gave a sultry rendition of the familiar feeling song “Feeling Good,”: “It’s a new life for me – and I’m feeling good.”
But Temstein, a 38-year-old singer-songwriter, just didn’t know How He will like it. The veteran artist underwent a double lung transplant for the first time in August after more than six months.
“I’ve only sung for my doctor and informally for the nurses,” she told The Post about feeling “inspired” to sing again for an audience. “I’m rebuilding my voice post-transplant – I’m basically reclaiming the way I sing.”
Since 2012, Temtchine has been living with pulmonary hypertension (PH), a rare and serious disorder in which high levels of blood in the arteries result in heart enlargement. The horse was three times its normal size.
“I was a walking corpse. The doctors had no idea how or why I was alive, ”she said of the time immediately after her diagnosis. Temstein had to haul an oxygen tank, which she fondly called “Steve Martin”, everywhere she went – including on stage.
Despite deep disease, she was determined to write and perform. He had experience writing music with a skilled array of songwriters and producers including Toby Gaad (who has written for John Legend, Madonna and many others including fake) and Greg Camp of Smash Mouth.
But his one-time bang career was “derailed”, Temshine said, because it became too difficult to perform.
“I kept pushing to try to perform, and every time I did, I got worse. I did the best I could with whatever I did.”
In July 2020, Temtchine and his guitarist Dave Berry were packed and ready to return to NYC from Los Angeles for good. While walking normally on the treadmill, his heart rate rose to 175. It was a heart attack.
“Then all hell broke loose, and I ended up in the ER,” she said, noting that she received a new diagnosis of PVOD, or pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, stating that she was in a four-day coma. Fell and was in life for three weeks of support.
“It was the greatest way of life or death,” she said.
On August 5, Temstein received his double lung transplant in a 12-hour surgery.
While his only priority was to survive, Tempestine hoped to sing again.
“These doctors, focused on saving my life, were so careful for my singing voice,” she said. After the surgery, “it’s healed and my body looks like it’s for war.”
Updating fans on her condition during the zoom show, which she also Posted on YouTube, Temstein acknowledged that there were some veins. “I always get emotional when I talk about the people who saved me,” she said. “I bowed a little when I played ‘Lean on Me’.”
But she was thrilled to sing again for the first time after her surgery, only now without feeling short of breath.
“I was just so happy and thankful that I was able to do what I love.”
The singer lives in LA to stay close to her doctors and continue her recovery, and is preparing for the release of her latest album, “You Save Me,” which drops online on Sunday. The album contains songs she recorded prior to transplant.
But his goals have shifted.
“Instead of the Grammys I always hoped that you could have your Grammys – I just want to impress people in some way. Hopefully that spirit will give the person who needs it,” she said. ” I feel like the happiest person on earth. “
