‘Superman and Lois’ star Tyler Hoechlin revealed how he is like Superman

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Tyler Hoechlin!

The “Teen Wolf” star donned the famous red cape to play the latest incarnation of Clark Kent / Superman in the new CW series “Superman & Lois”.

“I think I understand a lot about Clarke and Superman. Apparently not the powers, I wish I knew what it is like to fly – it would be great, ”the 33-year-old Hoechlin told The Post.

“But he does the right thing when there’s no reason other than ‘why not’? My people raised us that way. I know you don’t have to do the right thing all the time – but it doesn’t matter to me that you Why not. There is something about him that I connect with. And his eternal optimism.

“I grew up a romantic, then I became a cynic in my twenties and then felt worthless,” he said. “I enjoy waking up in the morning and hoping that we will get there. Wherever that we are expecting… then I appreciate that. “

Premiering Tuesday, February 23 (8 pm), the series is more mature on the famous story. The opening of the pilot reflects all the familiar beats – Clarke’s arrival as a child on Earth and his idyllic life in Smallville; His move to the metropolis as a youth and his job at the Daily Planet; Meet and fall with the disheveled journalist Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”). But after capturing their adult lives, the series proceeds to its main storyline, following Clark and Lois, as they are already married and the parents of two teenage boys.

“It’s not really a show about Superman, it’s about a husband and a wife who are parents and the husband is Superman,” Hoechlin said. “It’s interesting when you see someone who the world sees as this iconic figure – how does it look to their children?” Because Dad is always embarrassed. It is fun to play with her and see that they are actually in those more intimate moments when they are not playing this role for the world. “

“Superman and Lois”, which also features Elizabeth Tulloch as Alice, will premiere on Tuesday, February 23 at 11 pm.

In addition to “Teen Wolf” (2011–2017) and “7th Heaven”, (2003–2007), Hoechlin films had a period of 80s “Everybody Wants Some !!” Although “Superman & Lois” is not the first time she played the role of Superman – her character’s rendition has been on since 2016, with The CW appearing in the second DC featuring “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” and “The Flash” – Superman & Lois ”marks the first time she has received her own show.

“Every once in a while I have that moment where it kills you, ‘I’m wearing a cape today, that’s what I’m working on. I’ve worn a cape today!'”

Prior to acting, Hoechlin was on his way to a pro baseball career, until an injury caused him to get axed in Hollywood. He said it taught him perseverance, which he has brought to his current career (“Baseball is a game of failure and therefore it’s business – you take a lot of swings and only get a few hits”).

For this reason, he stated that he has not seen onscreen Superman such as Henry Cavill, Tom Welling, Brandon Roth, Dean Cain or Christopher Reeve.

“[My exposure to other Supermen] If I’m completely honest, there was very little. “I have been playing and working competitively as a player since I was young. I had other interests, but not many that I could devote much time to.

“I deliberately stayed away [from Superman since getting the role], “He said.” I have found that it is more beneficial for an impulse and to rely on it without hesitation, ‘Oh, so and so it was already. “It is easy to just finish it without finishing it. I want to talk. Since it was not something I grew so close to, it allows me to play without that pressure. ”
