Authorities killed a suspected rhino hunter in an elephant stampede in a South African national park on Saturday.
The Park Service said in a press release Sunday that the man was among three suspected hunters fired by rangers in Kruger National Park.
Authorities said the trio had fled, and during their escape, the elephants’ breeding herds fled.
One of the suspects was arrested, while the other was put to death.
A third suspect, who suffered an eye injury, survived and remained up late into the night on Sunday.
The rangers found a rifle, an ax and a bag that had been left behind by the alleged hunters.
