Sen. Ted Cruz found an odd way to express his support for billionaire Elon Musk’s push for change at Twitter – revealing Thursday that he loves the fart noise feature included in Tesla vehicles.

The Texas Republican detailed his fascination during a discussion about Musk’s Twitter buy on the Thursday episode of his podcast, “The Verdict with Ted Cruz.”

Both Cruz, a frequent critic of Big Tech firms, and co-host Michael Knowles touted Musk’s involvement at Twitter as a victory for freedom of speech – but the senator took it a step further.

“I am so happy about it, I may go out and buy a damn Tesla,” Cruz said roughly 10 minutes into the episode. “By the way, my girls want me to get a Tesla anyway.”

“You know why the girls love the Tesla? Because the central computer makes fart noises in each of the seats. For an 11-year-old and 13-year-old, that is the coolest feature,” the senator added. “And I’ve got to admit, as a 51-year-old, that’s a pretty cool feature, although I probably shouldn’t admit that publicly as I say into a TV camera.”

Cruz was referring to an app accessible in Tesla vehicles which allows drivers to play fart sounds within the car. Users can enable the noise to play when they use their turn signal and set it up to sound as it’s coming from a specific seat.

Tesla also offered a feature allowing drivers to make their car horn sound like a fart noise until last February, when the feds prompted Musk’s company to issue a recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned the feature could make it harder to hear a required “Pedestrian Warning System” sound.

“The fun police made us do it (sigh),” Musk tweeted at the time.

Cruz is the latest public figure to express support for Musk’s acquisition of a 9% stake in Twitter.

Conservatives have regularly accused the social media platform of suppressing right-leaning viewpoints and otherwise engaging in content moderation practices that hurt free speech.

“I think it’s wonderful,” Knowles said regarding the investment. “I think he’s a guy who, if not uniquely can do it, he’s really well-positioned. He’s putting his money where his mouth is. I hope he makes a lot of money doing it.”

“Absolutely,” Cruz added.

Erik Kikkert arrested for threatening Sen. Ted Cruz

A Washington state man was arrested after making a series of threats to kill Senator Ted Cruz.

“I’m gonna blow your f—ing brains out dude, literally,” the man said in a voicemail message, according to a federal criminal complaint first reported by The Daily Beast.

Erik Kikkert, a convicted felon and military veteran, was taken into custody Thursday. The complaint alleges that the Kings County resident threatened the prominent Texas Republican in a series of voicemails, text messages and emails over the past month.

Kikkert reportedly suffers from mental illness but refuses to take medication.

“I’m willing to put a gun in your face. You better f—king think about it,” he said in another voicemail, according to the federal court documents.

“Ted Cruz is going to call me or ill (sic) end up in his f—ing face with an assault rifle,” read one text message cited by the feds, accompanied by a picture of Kikkert in combat fatigues with a military firearm.

Kikkert suffers from mental illness but refuses to take medication or continue treatment, his mother told investigators, while adding that she had never seen him be violent and that he does not have an interest in weapons, according to the court documents.

Kikkert’s threats included a series of “nonsensical” statements, the complaint reads.

During the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson this week, Ted Cruz singled out multiple books while questioning the judge about her stance on critical race theory.

Two such books were Dr. Ibram X. Kendi’s “Antiracist Baby” and “Stampled (For Kids),” both of which are used to teach about prejudice and racism at Georgetown Day School, whose board Jackson serves on. However, Cruz’s attacks against Kendi’s books seem to have had the opposite effect than the GOP senator intended: Both are now No. 1 bestsellers on Amazon.

Cruz spent most of his time smearing “Antiracist Baby,” falsely claiming that its contents are used to brainwash kids into radically progressive ideologies, namely critical race theory. Cruz said he was “stunned” by the book for its ideas surrounding racism, singling out certain lines such as, “Babies are taught to be racist — there’s no neutrality.”

“Do you agree…that babies are racist?” he asked, holding up a copy. Jackson said she had never heard of the book and that she doesn’t play a role in helping curate reading syllabi at Georgetown Day School.

But if Jackson wasn’t aware of the book before, she and millions more across the country are now familiar. “Antiracist Baby” and “Stamped (For Kids),” both of which came out two years ago, shot to Amazon’s bestsellers list the day after Cruz’s comments. Both were No. 1 New York Times bestsellers upon their initial releases in 2020.

Cruz also unwittingly helped boost sales for the other titles that he mentioned. Alex Vitale’s 2017 book “The End of Policing,” which argues for the eventual abolition of the police, became a No. 1 bestseller in Amazon’s Government and Social Policy category. Vitale excitedly took to Twitter to share the news, writing, “Every purchase now comes with a vial of Ted Cruz tears.”

Cops called on Ted Cruz over Montana airport staff clash

Police were called to step in after a “frustrated” Sen. Ted Cruz reportedly got in an argument with airline staff at a Montana airport over the weekend.

Footage posted on Reddit showed Cruz (R-Texas), who was wearing a mask, speaking to two United Airlines staffers at Bozeman Airport on Sunday after he missed the check-in window for his flight.

A law enforcement officer had to be called in to help defuse the situation, Scott Humphrey, a deputy director of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, told the Daily Mail.

“One of our Public Safety Officers (PSO) was in the ticket lobby and was asked to assist with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter (which is not unusual),” Humphrey said.

“The passenger had missed the check-in window for his flight and re-booking options were limited out of Bozeman due to Spring Break.”

The Reddit user who posted the video claimed Cruz was “accosting” the two airline employees and “wouldn’t calm down.”

“Our PSO didn’t realize he was dealing with Senator Cruz until after the fact,” he said.

Cruz’s office didn’t immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Meanwhile, several tornadoes touched down in Cruz’s home state of Texas on Monday, leveling dozens of homes and damaging a number of schools, according to local reports.

Ted Cruz bought the bitcoin dip in January, filing shows

Count Sen. Ted Cruz among those who are betting that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are set for a rebound in the coming months.

Cruz (R-Texas) bought between $15,001 and $50,000 of bitcoin in a transaction dated Jan. 25, according to a Senate financial disclosure. The Texas senator made the purchase on River Financial, a leading digital marketplace for bitcoin.

The timing of Cruz’s purchase indicates he “bought the dip” on bitcoin. A single token of the leading cryptocurrency was worth approximately $36,980 on Jan. 25, according to Coin Base. Bitcoin’s price was down a considerable amount from its peak in November, when one token was worth $69,000.

Assuming Cruz still owns the bitcoin, he already stands to benefit from the purchase. Bitcoin’s price hovered near $43,000 as of Monday morning.

Cointelegraph was first to report on Cruz’s disclosure.

Cruz is one of several US lawmakers who are bullish on the long-term prospects of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

Last August, Cruz joined fellow cryptocurrency touts, including Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, in opposing a proposal for President Biden’s Build Back Better Act that would tax digital currency transactions.

“The infrastructure deal contains DANGEROUS provisions that would devastate crypto and blockchain innovation,” Cruz tweeted at the time.

In November, Cruz backed a resolution to allow vendors active on Capitol Hill to accept cryptocurrencies as payment.

As The Post previously reported, New York City Mayor Eric Adams requested his first three paychecks be converted into cryptocurrencies — a plan that hasn’t resulted in a windfall for his finances so far.

Analysts have attributed the plunge in cryptocurrency prices since last November to various factors, including geopolitical tensions in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, fears of regulation in China and Russia and mounting concerns about the Federal Reserve’s plan to hike interest rates.

Downturns in crypto prices have coincided with plunges in US tech stocks on several occasions, as investors shed riskier assets to prepare for tighter economic conditions. Bashing Nancy Pelosi for trading stocks? Yes — that’s a party that Sen. Ted Cruz would like to join.

Cruz, a Texas Republican, is weighing the idea of introducing his own bill to ban members of Congress — among them the Democratic House Speaker from California — from the controversial practice of buying and selling individual stocks, sources told On The Money.

On Wednesday, Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) announced plans to introduce The Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act, which will crack down on members of Congress and their families from picking stocks, instead limiting them to more vanilla-type mutual funds and the like.

Ossoff’s plans for the bill, which would clamp down on Pelosi and her husband, Paul — a Silicon Valley investor who lately has gobbled up options on Google, Disney and Roblox — were first reported by The Post on Saturday.

Just hours later, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) announced he would also introduce legislation banning such stock trades in Congress.

Not to be outdone, Cruz, a Texas Republican, is now considering how he can join the fray, according to Beltway insiders.

“Hawley and Cruz want to one-up each other,” a source close to the Senators told On The Money. “They don’t want to let the other one own the issue… they’d never join the other Senator’s bill because it would mean they couldn’t be the star.”

Cruz is still in the brainstorming phase — and trying to figure out how he can differentiate his legislation, a source adds. To date, Cruz appears to have stayed away from making suspicious trades. His wife is a managing director at Goldman Sachs.

Cruz is also infamous for moving slowly when it comes to writing and introducing legislation, this person adds — and cautions it could take a while for Cruz to put pen to paper.

“He’s going to take a tough stance because this legislation isn’t going to go anywhere,” a source adds. “These are just messaging bills.”

Sen. Cruz’s office declined comment.

While it’s unclear what value will be added by creating another anti-stock trading bill, people close to Cruz say it doesn’t matter.

“The US Senate never thinks there are too many cooks in the kitchen,” this person adds.

The flurry of legislation comes after Pelosi brushed off worries over stock picking by lawmakers last month, claiming it was part of the “free-market economy” — comments that made Democratic insiders “blood boil,” people close to the speaker told The Post.

In December, the House Speaker disclosed that the Pelosis scooped up millions in bullish call options for tech stocks. At the same, some insiders say she has slow-walked efforts to rein in Big Tech.

Even though the legislation may not move forward, some cynical observers are heartened by the content of the bills. “Posturing on issues that matter is a good thing — it helps the cause,” Jeff Hauser, founder and director of the Revolving Door Project told The Post.

Others are rolling their eyes. “He’s just showboating and he’s late to the game,” one progressive operative told The Post.

Ted Cruz walks back calling Capitol riot ‘terrorist attack’

Sen. Ted Cruz has walked back comments this week in which he described last year’s Capitol riot as a “violent terrorist attack,” brushing it off as a “mistake” and “sloppy phrasing” on his part.

Cruz (R-Texas) made the initial comment during a Senate Rules Committee hearing with US Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger on Wednesday.

“We are approaching a solemn anniversary,” Cruz said, “and it is the anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol, where we saw the men and women of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage.”

“Anyone who commits an act of violence should be prosecuted, and anyone who assaults a law enforcement officer should go to jail for a very long time,” Cruz added, “and I think that is a principle that is true regardless of the politics of the violent criminal, whether they are right-wing, left-wing or no wings at all.”

Cruz’s description of the riot as a “terrorist attack” drew the ire of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who noted on his show Wednesday night that the senator “doesn’t use a single word by accident.”

On Thursday night, Cruz appeared on the show and called his comments “dumb and sloppy.”

“I don’t buy that,” Carlson said at one point. “I’ve known you [a] long time, since before you went to the Senate. You were a Supreme Court contender. You take words seriously as anyone in the Senate. I do not believe you used that accidentally, I just don’t.”

“Tucker, as a result of my sloppy phrasing, it’s caused a lot of people to misunderstand what I meant,” Cruz responded. “What I was referring to was the limited number of people who engaged in violent attacks against police officers.”

Cruz — who was one of eight GOP senators to vote against certifying the 2020 presidential election results last January — added that he was not labeling the “thousands of peaceful protesters supporting Donald Trump” as terrorists.

“I wasn’t saying the millions of patriots cross-country supporting Trump are terrorists, that is what a lot of people misunderstood,” Cruz said.

Carlson pressed further, claiming the senator’s explanation “doesn’t make sense” and accusing him of “playing into the other side’s characterization that allows them to define an entire population as foreign combatants.”

Cruz explained that his use of the word “terrorists” in that context is not new, as he previously called Jan. 6 a “despicable act of terrorism.”

“That being said, it was a mistake to say that yesterday and the reason is what you said: is that we’ve had a year of Democrats and the media twisting words and trying to say that all of us are terrorists, trying to say you are a terrorist,” the lawmaker said. “I just don’t like people who assault cops.”

The senator attempted to explain himself further on Twitter, saying he “was NOT calling the thousands of peaceful protestors on Jan 6 terrorists.

“I would never do so; I have repeatedly, explicitly said the OPPOSITE—denouncing the Democrats’ shameful efforts to do so & to try to paint every Trump voter in America as ‘terrorists’ & ‘insurrectionists,’” he said.

“I was ONLY talking about the limited number of people who committed violent assaults on police officers,” he added in another tweet. “For over a decade, I’ve referred to those who violently attack police officers as terrorists. If you assault a cop you should go to jail.”

More than 700 people have been charged with crimes connected to the riot, including assaulting police officers. The US Capitol Police Department’s union has estimated that nearly 140 cops were physically injured or emotionally traumatized by the attack.

Unabomber Ted Kaczynski moved to medical center

The Unabomber has a new home.

Theodore “Ted” Kaczynski, 79, was transferred to the US Bureau of Prison’s Federal Medical Center Butner medical center in eastern North Carolina on Dec. 14, bureau spokesperson Donald Murphy confirmed.

He’d previously spent decades in a maximum security federal prison after being convicted for killing three people in a series of 16 planned explosions targeting scientists.

Murphy declined to give any information regarding Kaczynski’s condition or why he was moved.

Kaczynski pleaded guilty to setting 16 explosions that killed three people and injured 23 others in various parts of the country between 1978 and 1995. He was arrested at his remote cabin in western Montana in 1996, and is currently serving a life-sentence with no chance of parole.

FMC Butner, which is located just northeast of Durham in Granville County, offers medical services for prisoners including oncology, surgery, neurodiagnostics and dialysis, according to the Bureau of Prisons. It opened an advanced care and hospice unit in 2010.

The facility, which currently hosts 771 inmates, has been a home for other notorious criminals such as serial killer John Hinckley Jr. and ponzi-scheme mastermind Bernie Madoff, who died there earlier this year.

Kaczynski, a Harvard graduate, sent his bombs to his victims by mail including a package that exploded on an American Airlines flight that caused widespread panic among airlines and mail carriers. In 1995, he threatened to blow up a plane departing from Los Angeles before July 4. He was dubbed the Unabomber by the FBI because his early targets appeared to be universities and airlines.

Officials won’t comment on Ted Kaczynski’s condition or why the Unabomber was transferred.

Kaczynski killed computer rental store owner Hugh Scrutton, advertising executive Thomas Mosser and timber industry lobbyist Gilbert Murray. California geneticist Charles Epstein and Yale University computer expert David Gelernter were maimed by bombs two days apart in June 1993.

During his trial, he pleaded guilty rather than have his attorneys defend him by means of insanity.

Personal journals released during the trial revealed that Kaczynski’s motive was “simply personal revenge.”

“I often had fantasies of killing the kind of people I hated – i.e., government officials, police, computer scientists, the rowdy type of college students who left their beer cans in the arboretum, etc., etc., etc.,″ he wrote.

Sen. Ted Cruz secures vote on Nord Stream 2 sanctions

Sen. Ted Cruz celebrated Saturday after his holdout tactics secured a January vote that could slap new sanctions on Nord Stream 2, Russia’s natural gas pipeline to Germany.

“Major victory,” the Texas Republican exulted on Twitter. “When the Senate reconvenes, we’ll finally have a vote on sanctioning Putin’s pipeline.”

Cruz had used the Senate’s arcane rules to place holds on 32 of President Biden’s high-level State and Treasury Department nominees, including several ambassadors, blocking their confirmations for months.

His aim was to force a Senate vote on sanctioning the long-disputed Nord Stream 2 pipeline, after Biden waived Trump-era sanctions in May.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called the pipeline, which allows Russian-produced gas to bypass its rival neighbor on the way to European markets, a powerful geopolitical weapon for Putin — and Republicans have vociferously opposed Biden on the matter.
