A group of girl rockers has signed a record deal — after their song about anti-Asian racism went viral.
The Linda Lindas, a punk rock group of four girls who range in age from 10 to 16, has inked a deal with Epitaph Records, Variety reported.
Bandmates Bela, Lucia, Eloise and Mila made waves in recent days when a clip of them rocking out to a track titled “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the LA Public Library went viral.
“A little while before we went into lockdown, a boy in my class came up to me and said that his dad told him to stay away from Chinese people,” Mila, 10, says in the performance recorded earlier this month.
“After I told him that I was Chinese, he backed away from me. Eloise and I wrote this song based on that experience.”
Eloise, 13, then adds, “So this is about him and all the other racist, sexist boys in this world!”
In a clip of the performance, Eloise belts out the lyrics, “You are a racist sexist boy. And you have racist sexist joys. We rebuild what you destroy.”
Footage uploaded to the library’s Twitter page was viewed more than 3.6 million times.
The group — who describes themselves online as “Half Asian / Half Latinx. Sisters, cousins and friends who play music together because it’s fun!!” — also drew praise from some high-profile fans.
“Song of the day!” wrote Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello on Twitter.
