The judge quashed. Devin Nunes defamation suit against CNN

A defamation suit was brought against a CNN by a Manhattan judge on Friday as part of a defamation lawsuit.

US District Judge Laura Taylor Swain said the lawsuit seeking $ 435 million in damages was dismissed, which said California Republicans failed to request a return in a timely fashion or adequately state their claims.

Tunes had alleged that the cable news company had deliberately published an inaccurate news article on November 22, 2019, and was engaged in a conspiracy to defame her and damage her personal and professional reputation.

court case CNN said a report was published with false claims that Nunes was involved in efforts to bring “dirt” on then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Lawyers for Nunes said in court papers that CNN knew the statements made by Lev Pernas, and included in his report, were false.

Paranas, an aide to former New York City Mayor Rudolf Giuliani, filed charges in Manhattan federal court alleging that he made illegal contributions to politicians he believed could help for his political and business interests. His trial is scheduled for October.

Prosecutors said Paras and another co-defendant worked with Giuliani to try to get Ukrainian authorities to investigate Biden’s son. Giuliani has stated that he knew nothing about political contributions by men. He has not been charged.

Nunes’ lawsuit states that Paras was lying to try to gain immunity.

“It was clear to everyone – including the disgusting CNN – that Parnas was a fraudster and a hustler. It was clear that his lies were part of a thin-skinned effort to obstruct justice,” the lawsuit said.

In court papers, CNN’s lawyers said that Nunes and his staff declined to comment before commenting on whether Nunes had met a Ukrainian prosecutor.

“Instead of denying before the report was published,” CNN’s lawyers wrote, Rep. Nunes waited until it appeared and sued it to recover more than $ 435 million – citing CNN as’ fake. The news’s mother ‘label, “CNN lawyers wrote.” To prosecute, however, Rep. Nunes ignored the earlier need to request a withdrawal. “

The attorneys said that California law, which Swain said is appropriate for the case, required that a return be written in writing within 20 days of the story’s publication.

Messages seeking comment were sent to lawyers for Nunes and CNN.
