A University of Kentucky freshman died Monday of suspected alcohol toxicity after he was found unconscious at a fraternity house, according to reports.
Thomas “Lofton” Hazelwood, 18, was found unresponsive at the Farmhouse Fraternity at about 6:25 p.m. and first responders were unable to revive him, a university spokesman told WDRB.
“Foul play is not suspected, but police are investigating the circumstances of his death,” the spokesman said.
Hazelwood, an agricultural economics major, had just joined the frat, University President Eli Capilouto told Fox News
.
“He had all the promise of youth and the potential that comes with it,” Capilouto told the outlet.
The Fayette County Coroner ruled Hazelwood’s death as accidental, the report said.
“We are saddened to share the passing of a University of Kentucky new member of Farmhouse fraternity,” Farmhouse fraternity CEO Christian Wiggins told WDRB in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, chapter members, and the entire community. We have encouraged all members to cooperate with the investigation,” the statement said.
