Authorities said Tuesday that a police officer in Virginia was fired after donating to a legal defense fund for Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse.
Norfolk Police Lt. William Kelly anonymously gave $ 25 to a fundraiser for the Retainhouse in September, using his city’s email address, According to The Guardian.

Norfolk City Manager Chip Filler said Tuesday that he conducted an internal investigation into the incident and determined that Kelly had violated city and departmental policies, local outlets WAVY-TV reported.
“His lewd comments erode the trust between the Norfolk Police Department and the people they swear to serve,” the filer said in a statement on Tuesday.
“There is a standard behavior for all employees in the city of Norfolk, and we will hold employees accountable.”
In his own statement, Police Chief Larry Boon said the force “does not want any individual officer’s perceptions to undermine the relationship between the Norfolk Police Department and the community.”
Kelly was an 18-year veteran of the department and an executive officer of internal affairs for the past two months.
He may appeal the decision regarding his termination.
The 18-year-old Rittenhouse is accused of shooting and killing two people and attempting to murder in a protest on August 25 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The teenager, who pleaded not guilty, has been freed on bail $ 2 million donated by supporters since last November. His trial is expected to begin from 1 November.
