There’s no knowing where Odell Beckham Jr. will wind up after getting released by the Cleveland Browns on Friday, but there’s a star player on a Super Bowl contender who wants to join forces.
Von Miller, the pass rusher who was just acquired by the Los Angeles Rams from the Denver Broncos, wished Beckham a happy 29th birthday and invited him to join up in Tinseltown.
“Happy Birthday @obj I love you man! Frfr!” Miller wrote on Instagram. “Come to the @rams so we can chase this ring together!!!”
Beckham Jr. and Miller have been friends for a number of years. They sat courtside together at the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.
It has been a whirlwind week for Beckham Jr. Prior to trade deadline day, his father shared a video of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield not hitting his son on open routes, and then Beckham Jr.’s friend, Ohio native and Lakers superstar LeBron James, tweeted for the Browns to #FreeOBJ.
This all felt orchestrated on his behalf, but if he passes through waivers, he will be able to sign with any team of mutual interest.
From the outside, the Rams do not appear to be the best option for the mercurial receiver. They already have two strong options in Cooper Kupp — who leads the NFL in receiving by over 100 yards with 924 — and Robert Woods. The Rams just dealt with an issue where DeSean Jackson wanted the ball more. Beckham, at this stage in his career, is more apt to contribute on intermediate routes than Jackson, but the rules of the game have not changed such that there is more than one football.
Teams that make more sense for Beckham than the Rams include the Raiders, who have a need at wide receiver following the release of Henry Ruggs III after Tuesday’s fatal DUI crash, and the Saints, who were reportedly interested in trading with the Browns for Beckham. before talks broke down.
