VW accidentally leaking new name for its US division: Voltschwagen

Volkswagen erroneously issued a press release on its website on Monday, announcing the new name of its US operations a month earlier.

According to an April 29 release, the US division’s new name is Voltswagen of the United States, to emphasize the German automaker’s electric vehicle efforts.

A representative for the company did not return a request for comment. The authenticity of the release was One confirmed by CNBC, Citing a Volkswagen insider.

CNBC said the release called the change “a public announcement of the company’s future investment in future e-mobility”. The document states that the Voltswagen will be placed as an external badge on all EVs [electric vehicle] Models with gas vehicles bearing the company’s iconic VW emblem only

The document mentions that the company will retain the dark blue color of the VW logo to “preserve the elements of Volkswagen’s heritage” for gas-powered vehicles, while electric vehicles will use the light blue as a point of differentiation Will use branding.

Volkswagen is making a strong push into the electric car space. Earlier this month, the automaker organized a “Power Day” to discuss its EV technologies.

The company also announced targets for significant growth in EVS sales by the end of the decade, noting that it expects more than 70 percent of European sales of its Volkswagen brand to be made by EV by 2030. This is a huge increase from their previous target of 35 percent. In the US and China, the company expects half of its sales to be EV by that timeframe.
