WandVision installs Marvel multiverse in tons of different ways

When Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysteries convince Spider-Man to give Tony Stark’s weapon Spider-Man: Away From Home, He raises a toast to everyone, helping to make his election possible. Including its author, who suggested that he pretends to be a superhero from Earth-833. “The story made by a soldier of another Earth fighting space monsters called Quentin in Europe is completely ridiculous, and apparently exactly the kind of thing people would believe right now.”

Even in the real world, he is not wrong. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has greatly expanded the overton window of acceptable blockbuster plots since 2008. iron ManIs the basis of a technical billionaire inventing a super weapon compared to AvengersFull-scale alien invasion, planet-size daddy issues of Star-Lords Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, or Avengers: EndgameTime travel. Mysterio was not really from another earth, but writers Chris McKenna and Eric Somers were right that people were ready to believe that multiverse is possible.

Now, it appears that the next phase of the MCU will focus on the notion that we are living in one of many parallel worlds, other versions of our planet and even ourselves that exist beyond our perception Huh. The clues are all in Vandavision.

Alternative universes have been discovered in science fiction and fantasy for decades, perhaps the most famous being the beginning of the Mirror Universe in Star Trek in 1967. But the trope has become particularly central to long-running comic book universes, with authors using it as one. The way to tell non-canonical stories, integrate new characters, or watch superheroes fight their evil doppelgangers.

DC Comics first adopted the concept of multiverse in the 50s and recently brought it to an on-screen adaptation through Commissioner Flash And Crisis Crossover Incident on Infinite Earths. Marvel Comics made their first parallel Earth in the 70s, and now Marvel Studios begins making Multiverse a major part of their Phase Four plans, Vandavision.

As Agents of SWORD Note, Wanda Maximoff is one of the most powerful Avengers, capable of putting up a serious fight against Thanos alone. But his powers are still played as amorphous in the MCU. He is shown mostly playing with people’s heads and blasting people with energy. Vandavision Her abilities are expanded in ways to align her world with the power that shakes her comics.

In Marvel Comics, Wanda is a “Reality Vapor”, an assortment in superhero comic books for characters capable of re-shaping matter and energy on a large scale, whether through magic, mutant abilities, or any other cosmic force. Be from While there are plenty of heroes like Thor, who have supernatural abilities, or Doctor Strange, who can defy the laws of physics, the fabric of reality is one step up. It is simply a power of how a writer chooses it, and as it is often used as the trump card of the genre.

Wanda most demonstrated that power in Brian Michael Bendis’s 2005 story House of m, When he tried to concoct an alternate reality to avoid the grief of losing his twin sons, where mutants ruled the world. Even when the various heroes united to normalize her return things, she came out, removing the powers of most of the world’s mutants.

Whether her powers came from being the mutant offspring of Magneto, a human experiment from High Evolutionary, or a Hydra experiment using Mind Stone – the various explanations implemented in comics and MCUs – Wanda is able to wield magic that re-shapes her world. Is capable of giving. according to him. I like everything Vandavision, How he used that power, which appeared at a slow pace. He began by using Mind Control to force Westview residents to tweak the case to give proper costumes to every case in the town, to avoid the misery of losing sight. But when she became pregnant and then gave birth to Tommy and Billy, things became very strange.

In the comics, the children were created through Wanda’s reality-manipulating powers, an ancient demon with the help of some essence taken from Mephisto that also has the ability to manipulate reality. It is becoming increasingly possible that Mephisto is working with Agatha Harkness to implicate Venda in the web of Westview – because Wanda does not know how she has acquired the power to create her own suburban paradise. In the comics, one of Mephisto’s powers is the ability to capture the souls of those who have recently been killed, and so it is possible that Wanda was killed by Thanos’ snaps and this effect could begin Is when the effect is only felt that he has now returned from the blip. The fact that Wanda’s powers do not work on Tommy and Billy is further indicative that the children are not entirely Wanda’s creations.

Whatever is going on in Westview, magic seems not only to manipulate existing elements, but to pull on the fabric of the multiverse. As Wanda and Vision were having their first really serious fight about Wanda’s actions, Agatha interferes with the distraction by bringing Wanda’s speedster brother Pietro to her door. The problem was, instead of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s version in the MCU, Pietro is played by Ivan Peters in the X-Men films.

The vision of the resurrection may have required Wanda to create an effect that mimics Mind Stone, which may also be easy for her as her powers come from there. But bringing Pietro back suggests that he needed to apply his brother’s mind to a different version of his body. Neither understand exactly how or why this happened, after which Wanda called for help and Pietro responded, apparently with Agatha’s help.

But once it happens that the walls between the worlds become thin. Wanda and Visions interpret their Halloween costumes – in terms of their classic comic book costumes – as being a Sokovian fortune teller and Mexican wrestler, with no winks or nods. There is absolutely no justification why Pietro, Billy, and Tommy have worn the classic attire associated with their characters. MCU has done a lot of clever work in early costumes, with Trish Walker briefly donning her Hellcock costumes Jessica jones Before choosing something simple, incorporate past Iron Man and Captain America costumes into the plot of the new origin stories of those characters. But it feels different.

It becomes even more apparent that Wanda is somehow tapping into Multiverse in the following episode, via a commercial for Nexus, an antidepressant that can “anchor you back to reality.” The Nexus is a reference to the Nexus Beings, people from each region parallel to the Marvel Universe who both anchor their reality and have the ability to change it. With the tagline “Nexus: Because the world doesn’t revolve around you … or does it?”

In the comics, Nexus Binges can also pass on some of that world-shaking power to his children, and sure enough, Billy is getting signs of being a real war just like the comics – both of them Tommy Turns off the powers of Pall and helps her mother find the vision. It is possible that he helped Wanda expand the hex to save her father.

There is a group of other Marvel characters who are capable of manipulating reality or at least seeing changes in it, and many of them are involved with the next phase of the MCU. The Eternal, known as the Sprite, is able to use the power of the Dreaming Celestial to expand its powers of illusion to separate reality from itself and present the rest of its remaining mortal. . bottle gourdThe timetable authority monitors the various deadlines of the multiverse. Animated series what if… ? Arriving at Disney + later this year will be somewhat of a loss to some of Marvel’s early dallian through the eyes of Utu the Watcher. And when Marvel Studios gets around it Fantastic Four The film, it could set the stage for Franklin Richards, the son of Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman, who in the comics showed his reality at an early age, preserved only by Agatha Harkness.

We will probably get more answers about Multiverse from the last episode Vandavision, Which is being installed for bottle gourd, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and possibly Spider-Man: No Way Home. The strange title leaks for the Spider-Man movie seem to be another clue to the idea that we can see the split realities, including the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange appeared alongside Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro Denge – the villain the last two Spider-Man film franchises. This is an area that proved to be extremely popular Spider-Man: In Spider-Year. No Way Home SeaIt even featured live action debuts of alternate universe Spider-Man characters including Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen.

As Mysterio said, tales poking through alternate universes as real-manipulating heroes and villains are certainly ridiculous, but fans of the comic book love them. Disney and Marvel executives make big bets that viewers are willing to accept them as well. The way Quentin Beck used that idea to try to honor himself as one of the Avengers, this phase of the MCU concept to provide strangers with more terrible threats to confront their heroes. Can use them, so that they cannot just get power. Protect this world but the whole multidimensional.
