WFAN’s Carton and Roberts take advantage of ESPN Messi lineup

The setup of ESPN New York’s lineup is so poorly constructed that it is a gift to WFAN, Craig Carton and Evan Roberts.

“Carton and Roberts”, just a few months old, has taken advantage of it, the New York afternoon sports radio domination neck and neck and battle for the stream.

It is clear that the trends favor “Carton & Roberts” potentially topping “The Michael’s Show” book this winter, which is that the two shows have gone head-to-head for a period of three months altogether.

The way FAN sees it already has an advantage with a 6.6-6.5 rating share among men 25-54 according to Niels Audio.

(ESPN does not count FAN’s ratings in the fight because FAN sells its ad separately so ESPN sees it as if KE is 5.5-to-4.1 at 4.1 C&R.)

From a FAN perspective, C&R ranks third in Kay’s market. It should be noted that we are at the three-innings mark in the Winter Games.

The overall setup of ESPN’s latest lineup seems inspired by Abbott and Costello, who could probably out-rate Max Kellerman.

Who is first Keeshavan, Juville and Zubin? They are at number two.

Here’s the mismatch of a schedule that airs Monday-Friday-Friday on ESPN 98.7 FM:

DiPiro, Canty and Rothenberg (5-8 am)

Kishvan, Juville and Zubin (8–10 am)

Green (10-noon)

Bart and Hahn (2pm)

Max Kellerman Show (2-3pm)

Michael’s Show (3-7)

Bristol-based Judgment offers a lot of shows, especially national ones, that put real New York audiences first. If ESPN cares to compete with 98.7 FM, it should localize and simplify.

FAN has three main shows, “Boomer and Geo” (6-10 am), “Moose & Maggie” (10-2) and “Carton & Roberts” (2-7 pm). You don’t have to think about what you’re getting.

With Kai’s momentum, Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg stepping down Mike Francesa in his final years and teaming up with Rick DiPietro, Chris Canty and Dave Rothenberg, ESPN NY was heading in the right direction.

Instead of using that air behind its FM signal, ESPN in New York has taken a step backward in its 17 years with its 1 million schedules, give or take.

Who’s on the other side? Greenberg? No, he is on third.

In the morning, ESPN will have to decide whether it wants to give DePietro, Canty and Rothenberg four local hours to go head-to-head with Boom Asiason and Greig Giannotti of Fenn from 6-10.

Right now, this is not a fair fight, with FAN dominating; Especially from 8–10 am, when “Boomer and Geo” goes against the national shows of Keyshaw Johnson, Jay Williams and Zubin Mehendi.

“Boomer and Jio” ranks second in the market after 106.7 FM (which is also the first time). From 6-10, Boomer and Jio have more than double ESPN’s 6.9 rating.

From 5-8 am, ESPN’s DiPietro, Canty and Rothenberg have made little noise with 3.7 shares. it’s a start.

At 10 in the morning, Greenberg is losing to FAN’s “Moose and Maggie,” 6.8 (3rd) to 2.5 (15th). Overall, when you include “Bart and Hain” from Noon 2, FAN basically maintains its number (6.6 to 3.3), while ESPN gets a little bump.

From noon to 2 pm, Barbell Scott and Alan Hain are much stronger on football and basketball than baseball. They are mostly performing New York shows for national audiences. This is the New York Post, so the odd format of the program is Peoria’s problem.

What makes the least sense is Kellerman’s one-hour show from 2-3 pm Kellerman is the best on the radio in an ensemble program.

As a solo artist, he mourns and, although he is from New York, his national-centric show is not made up for.

Carton and Roberts crushed Kellerman in New York on a score of 9.1 to 2.2, giving the FA a big head start in their race ahead of Kai, La Greca and Rosenberg.

Is this the first show?

Not counting radio streaming or not counting streaming is one of the great questions of our time, and has been raging ever since Francesa’s crown staggered and fell.

Bottom line, the Nielsen ratings are not perfect, but you slice it. They only count 25-54-year-old men, who are older, but that’s how the advertisement is sold. So we can go for another streaming debate in the afternoon.

What is the importance of trends. FAN wins all day, making Kay’s show work even harder.

Three innings in the book Winter, “Carton and Roberts” are well positioned. ESPN has to find out if he really wants to play in New York’s sports radio.
