Why Tom Ford’s jeans have crotch logos: ‘Everyone looks’

That’s one jean-ius logo.

When designing denim, Tom Ford places his subtle logo in a less-than subtle spot: the “tip of the crotch.”

“I’m wearing a pair of my own jeans, and right down at the crotch, there’s a liiiittle embroidered ‘TF’ riiight at the tip of the crotch,” he told GQ in a recent interview.

But while the letters may appear almost invisible on Ford’s denim pants, which retail for around $700 per pair, he isn’t worried the strategic stitching will go unnoticed.

“You want to put the logo where someone’s gonna look,” he added of the intimate initial placement.

“Everyone looks at everyone’s crotch. Other men look, because they want to see: big? Not big? Women do it. So, put the logo there.”

Continued the style icon, “We traditionally put it on people’s butts. When you’re wearing a pair of jeans, people look at other people’s butts. Levi’s, forever, that’s where the logo was.”

Ford’s no stranger to creating eye-catching fashion moments. During his tenure at Gucci, he designed Gwyneth Paltrow’s red velvet suit for the 1996 VMAs, a look she reprised earlier this week while sitting front row at a Gucci fashion show.

“I like celebrities in general because they’re unafraid of fashion,” said Ford, whose designs have also been worn by A-listers including Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya.

“They need fashion. They need, when they walk down a red carpet, to get attention, so they’re not afraid. They’ll take much bigger risks.”

The CFDA chairman, who served as Gucci’s creative director from 1994 to 2004, also weighed in on the upcoming “House of Gucci” movie, revealing he’s reviewing the fashion-filled film “for a couple of people.”

“I read the screenplay before it was made and, you know, for somebody who lived it, you have to realize that things are glamorized in film,” he said of the highly anticipated flick, which stars Lady Gaga and Adam Driver.

“I mean, I was there, and they weren’t quite so glamorous,” he continued. “I would be doing the same thing if I were making that movie. I would bump up the glamour level a bit.”
