TAMPA — One of the rites of spring is players saying they’ve come into camp in — repeat after me — the best shape of their lives.

Aaron Hicks might not be ready to go that far, but he’s got more reason than most to try different things to stay on the field.

Hicks, 32, said he altered some of his offseason routines in an effort to remain healthy this season — something he’s often been unable to do while with the Yankees. Hicks played his last game of 2021 on May 12 before undergoing surgery for a torn sheath in his left wrist.
