Joey Gallo has jokes.
After we saw Bryce Harper make overtures to a team in Japan, Gallo posted images of his real (if not tongue-in-cheek) LinkedIn profile as hope continues to wane that MLB players and owners will reach a new collective bargaining agreement that prevents missed games this season.
Gallo listed his current and former employers — the Yankees and Texas Rangers — and his education at Biship Gorman High School.
Somewhat amusingly, Gallo listed his “skills” as striking out, hitting into the shift and getting dressed weird.
In fact, Gallo has recently advocated getting rid of the shift.
“I get the defensive strategies,” noted shift target Joey Gallo told The Athletic last summer. “I do. I’m 100 percent not against that. But I think at some point, you have to fix the game a little bit. I mean, I don’t understand how I’m supposed to hit a double or triple when I have six guys standing in the outfield.”
He spoke up again to the outlet in a recent story.
“I think most hitters are pretty adamant on the shift, that they have to do something with it,” Gallo said. “I don’t really see many hitters going, ‘The shift is pretty awesome, man. They need to keep that.’ I think people understand that hitting is hard enough — but when you have guys standing in different positions where it makes it almost impossible to get hits, that makes it even harder, obviously.”
Gallo lost 29 hits and only gained 14 due to the shift last season — a net loss of 15 base hits.
