He was admitted to a hospital in Ohio after being attacked by a cheetah.
The incident took place at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Thursday WBNS-TV.
An employee at the station said two staff members were walking with 4-year-old Isabel on Thursday morning when they encountered another zookeeper on the service road.
Isabel’s care team seated her down and reportedly then invited the guard to contact the big cat. Reportedly, when the cheetah was bent down and hurled at the keeper.
The injured employee works around the giraffe and other members of the horse’s family, and zoo officials believe the smell of those animals gives rise to a natural tendency, Isabel reports, WBNS-TV.
“You can train a wild animal, but it’s impossible to tame them and just can’t do it, the instinct is so powerful,” Suzy Rapp, vice president of animal programs at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, told the station. “They are a wild animal and we treat them like that.”
Isabel gave birth to two cubs last year through in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer, which was seen as a scientific breakthrough.
“Izzy is probably one of the most famous cheetahs in the world because a lot of people know that last year we did an intra fertilization transfer. Rez said that Izzy was the recipient of that transfer and gave birth to two beautiful full-fledged Cubs Dave and Adrian 83 days later.
“It was the first time in the world that science was successful.”
The zoo will put the cheetah in 30 days of quarantine, before returning to its “Heart of Africa” habitat, according to a CBS-linked report.
Zookeeper was reportedly treated and discharged.
