It was far from disturbing crime.
Authorities said the drunken white cat of a drug-runner was caught in a Panama prison for smuggling narcotics.
While it came to a halt outside the Nueva Francanza prison in Cologne province on Friday, a herd of kittens took a contraption around their necks in a pouch. AFP reported.
“A cloth was tied around the animal’s throat”, which contained wrapped packages of white powder, leaves, and “vegetative matter,” said Andres Gutierrez, head of the Panama Penitentiary System.
According to another official, the substances were possibly cocaine and marijuana.
Local prosecutors said they had investigated the use of animals to snatch illegal substances at the Nueva Esperanza facility, which included more than 1,700 inmates.
Prosecutors said that in the meantime, the criminal cat would be taken to a pet lap center.
This is not the first time that a Central American country has been used by prisoners as drug runners.
Authorities have previously attempted home medicine delivery by pigeons and even drones.
