Google today announced that it is adding a popular customer request to its Google TV software: separate profiles for children. Kid Profile will let you choose which apps are available to younger audiences. If a Google Account for a child already exists, you can add it as a Kid Profile – but don’t have a Google Account Expected; You can also create a profile by adding only the name and age of a child.
Similar to Google TV for adults, rows of recommended, age-appropriate shows for children to watch will appear. You can choose to share movies and TV shows already on a child’s profile with the Google Play Family Library. At least now you won’t have to deal with kiddy content intruding into your own recommendations.
Parents can set a daily clock time limit for the child’s profile and enter a specified sleeping time. Google TV product manager Saleh Altayar wrote in a blog post, “Your children will be greeted before the last time they ‘screen up’.” You will have the option to add some extra bonus time if you don’t have a school night. “

Parents can prevent children from switching to regular profiles by setting a profile lock, which requires a bypass pin. You can check Google’s Family Link smartphone app to see “how much time your kids spend in their favorite app, block and unblock apps, control app activity and more.”

The background on the child’s profile can be customized with different themes, and Google says it will add profile avatars in the coming weeks. Keep in mind that Google TV is adding children’s profiles, yet it does not provide the ability to create more than one Adult Profile – So hopefully not too far behind.
Child Profile will rollout Chromecast with Google TV and other Google TV devices in the US starting next month, with global expansion starting this month. This feature was definitely required and helps make Google TV as solid as the streaming interface for streaming.
