AstraZeneca to seek US authorization for COVID-19 vaccine

Drugmaker AstraZeneca intends to file for emergency authorization of its coronavirus vaccine for use in the United States.

The company is seeking US approval by the end of March or early April, According to Reuters.

A company spokesperson quoted the post as saying, “We expect to receive data from our US Phase III trial soon in the coming weeks.”

The vaccine, which was developed in partnership with the University of Oxford, has been approved for use in the European Union, but has been halted elsewhere in some recipients over concerns about blood clots.

The company says that 30 million doses are ready to go to the United States once the authorization is allowed.

Currently, American citizens are being vaccinated by Pfizer, Modern and Johnson & Johnson.
