The Biden administration is pulling the plug on President Trump’s program to disregard court-issued deportation orders and illegally loosen illegal immigrants – and waive all debts.
“We can enforce our immigration laws without resorting to ineffective and unnecessary punitive measures” Said on friday.
Under a January 2017 executive order issued by Trump, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued stiff fines to non-citizens who refused to leave the country when ordered to do so.
Fines start at $ 3,000 and can rise to $ 500 a day – up to a staggering $ 497,777 in one case, Reported in NPR 2019

But the agency was unable to collect most of the bills, CNN reported, Only charges about 1 percent of the issued fine.
The Department of Homeland Security stopped issuing penalties in January, the agency said – and said it “intends to work with the Treasury Department that intended to cancel the existing debts of those people.”
