George Springer’s disappointing debut with the Toronto Blue Jays led to another drop on Wednesday, when a $ 150 million free-agent signing was placed on the injured list again with a replay of the right-quad strain.
Former Astro centerfielder Javes was left out of the lineup as he gave up a win over the Braves on Sunday, just his fourth game back – as the all-team designated hitter – since missing most of April with an injury.
“The main reason we did this was because we didn’t see him improving faster, so we decided to do some imaging to determine the next steps,” Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo said.
The 31-year-old Springer, who picked Blue Jay over the Mets’ offer in the offset, made his first two home runs for Toronto on Saturday against the Braves. He was initially dropped from Sunday’s game, which Jace described as “fatigue” in his quad.

“I wouldn’t call it serious,” Montoyo said. “He wasn’t going to go out for six weeks or four weeks, so I’m not going to call it serious, that’s sure. So he came back as soon as it was never serious.
“When that happened, he never really went off the field, he just stopped running and went in because he was hit.”
