Manhattan’s Javits Center may have broken a day’s record for taking out COVID-19 vaccines after a 24-hour operation this week.
Cuomo said the mass vaccination hub at Hales Kitchen took 13,432 shots on Saturday.
“We believe that the highest number of vaccines has been administered in a single day in the country so far,” Cuomo said during an interaction with reporters.
Nightly appointments began on Friday evening as part of a pilot program to distribute the newly approved Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine.
Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and state fair venues in Syracuse have also been turned into 24-hour vacant spots since last week.
“This is because this week, we have a one-time additional vaccine bonus from Johnson & Johnson, but you are seeing the number continue to increase,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo said officials were “concerned” that no one would come out in the middle of the night to be vaccinated.

“When we opened at night time, they were filled in six or seven hours – thousands of appointments, which is good news because it means people are ready to take the vaccine,” said Cuomo.
Cuomo said Empire State plans to open more mass vaccinations and a 24-hour site.
He said that the state is on track to manage its highest number of vaccines this week.
“We are going to do about 850,000 vaccines this week which we believe is going to be an all-time record for us,” he said.
The US also passed its daily record of vaccinating coronoviruses on Friday – with about 2.4 million jobs, USA Today reported.
