There is a Star Student creative team that comes from all over the world to help spread the story to the audience. The show is produce by LeSean Thomas (Black Dynamite, The Bondocks) And is animate by MAPPA, a major anime studio whose most recent work includes Jujutsu kassen. With images in the world and release date, Thomas took a second to reflect on the show in a statement.

The project has a serious nature about how an African-American man goes to live in Japan and works in the very best of Japanese anime, creating an anime about an African who Goes to Japan to live among the Japanese elite and becomes a warrior. The deepest part of me believes that I was with MAPPA, Flying Lotus, LaKeith and the rest of this talented team to make this adventure series.

Yasuke is a fascinating, mysterious figure in Japanese history, who has been growing for decades in today’s media. I first learned about Yasuke’s role in Japanese history in a decade or two. Kurusu Yoshio’s children’s book Kuro-sook contained images that aroused my curiosity. It was exciting material to finally learn that he was not just a fictional character, but a real person, an exciting story.

I have long been very excited for both fans and newcomers to enjoy our renaissance on this historical figure.

Also working on the show is director Takeshi Koike (Lupid the Third: The Woman Called Fujico Mine), And Laketh Stanfield (go, Atlanta, Sorry to bother you) That would provide Yasuke’s voice. Finally, the series’ music will be provided by composer and producer Flying Lotus.

Yasuke To debut on Netflix on April 29.
