Rape Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Monday asked Rep. Jerry Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, to host a hearing on “culture.”
While the New York Democrats are likely to reject the request, it reflects an emerging conservative focus that is likely to bear on other hearings and will pose as an issue in the 2022 midterm election.
“The wave of canceled culture is spreading. [in] The nation is a serious threat to the fundamental free
Speech Rights in the United States. From news rooms to college campuses to social media giants, we have seen a dangerous trend towards silencing and censoring some political speeches, ”the committee’s ranking member Jordan wrote.
“As the committee is entrusted to uphold the Constitution and our fundamental freedoms, our first plenary committee hearing for the 117th Congress should examine this canceling culture wide America.”
The term “revoke culture” describes the punishment of unpopular political or social views, usually by shutting down or censoring the speaker.
“Our society should always promote free exchange of ideas, not cancel
Ideas we disagree with. If the canceled culture doesn’t continue, it’s not just
Unpopular or controversial views that are at risk, ”Jordan wrote.
Ohio congressmen said that “our shared commitment to free speech principles is being erased under censorship of fixed speech and demands to remain silent.”
“College campuses have canceled lectures because students disagree with the speaker. An editor for the US newspaper’s record was forced to resign to publish an opinion piece by a Republican senator with whom the newsroom disagreed, ”Jordan wrote.

“Amazon has refused to sell books reflecting certain political views, and Twitter and Facebook have censored and de-platformed major conservatives — including the President of the United States. Recently, two Democrat members of Congress wrote to twelve cable companies not to broadcast some news networks. “
A Nadler spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
