Woman attacked on the way to an anti-Asian violence rally in NYC

Police said on Monday that a woman was twice punched in the face in protest of Asian violence over the weekend.

The 37-year-old victim was on her way to a performance at around 11:30 am on Sunday morning at Astor Place near Astor Place, when a stranger approached her and asked, “Can I take your sign?” Police said.

She told him that she could do it, when asked what she was going to do according to the police.

He attempted to put the sign in the trash can, but then placed it on the ground and insisted on it instead.

When the victim asked why he did this, he allegedly punched her twice in the face.

He then stormed the 6 train station at Astor Place, police said.

The victim suffered a cut and bruise on his lip and sprained an ankle as he tried to chase down his attacker. She was taken to Lennox Hill Healthplex Hospital for injuries.

Police described the suspect as 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, with a medium complexion, slim build and dark hair.

He was last seen wearing a red Chicago Bulls hoodie, blue jeans, a black baseball cap, a black face mask, black sneakers and carrying a green bag.

The Hate Crime Task Force of the NYPD is investigating.

Amidst this incident, attacks against people of Asian origin have increased in the Big Apple and elsewhere.
