The two teenagers charged with shooting an off-duty NYPD officer in a botched carjacking in Queens were held without bail Thursday — hours before the cop was set to be released from the hospital.
Chad Collie, 19, and Jayare Robinson, 18, were arraigned on a slew of charges, including attempted murder and attempted robbery related to the Tuesday night shootout that left NYPD rookie Manuel Soto injured.
The pair allegedly descended on Soto around 10:20 p.m. as the cop sat at a red light in his 2003 Lexus RX300 at Beach 62nd Street and Beach Channel Drive in Arverne, according to the criminal complaint.
Collie is accused of firing three shots at Soto, who was on his way to work at the time, as the off-duty cop ran from the attempted carjacking.
Soto returned fire, prosecutors said, but did not hit either teen, and the pair fled.
Two uniformed officers conducting a traffic stop nearby heard the shots and responded, according to court documents.
Collie is accused of firing one shot toward those officers before tossing his weapon.
Soto — who was shot in the shoulder, fracturing his left clavicle — is expected to be released from Jamaica Hospital Thursday afternoon after undergoing surgery. He joined the department in July 2021.
Collie, of Far Rockaway, is facing 13 counts, including attempted murder, assault and attempted robbery.
Robinson, of Arverne, was hit with 11 counts, including attempted murder, attempted robbery and weapons possession.
The teens each face up to 25 years in prison, if convicted.
Both Collie and Robinson are scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 7.
“This was a brazen carjacking attempt that all too easily could have ended in yet another tragedy for NYPD and all New Yorkers,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. “This blatant disregard for human life must be answered with certain justice.”
