NYC Teachers Association Supports Scott Stringer for Mayor

He is the pet of teachers.

The New York City Teachers Association on Monday overwhelmingly supported the city’s acting Comptroller Scott Stringer for mayor.

Stringer’s support of the UFT is not surprising – especially for rival campaigns – because Stringer has a close relationship with the union.

UFT supported Stringer for Manhattan Borough President in 2005, when he defeated Eva Moskowitz, CEO of Success Academy, the city’s largest charter school network.

The UFT endorsement is a major boost for Stringer, who overtook Andrew Yang and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams in recent elections.

UFT President Michael Mulgrave and the union’s executive board recommended union representatives to Stringer.

A union source said that 90 percent of the delegates voted for Stringer.

Stringer recently gained the support of the Left Working Families Party, so he caught some momentum towards the Democratic primaries on 22 June.

UFT has approximately 200,000 active and retired members.
