Jennifer Lopez revealed Wednesday that she and Ben Affleck were both shocked that they ended up back together decades after they split.
“I don’t think anybody was more surprised than us,” the “Marry Me” star, 52, said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
“You never could imagine that something like that could happen. It’s a beautiful thing.”
Lopez and Affleck, 49, did their part to bring back the Aughts by getting back together in April 2021. The pair had notoriously dated in 2002 — and wound up engaged — but called it off two years later.
Lopez admitted to DeGeneres, 64, that she is “in love” with Affleck again — as she also mentioned in her People cover story earlier this month.
The “Selena” star also told the magazine that she experienced “a little bit of fear” about returning to such a high-profile relationship.
“We both were like, ‘Wow, we’re so happy and we don’t want any of that to come into play again,’” Lopez explained.
“We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We’re so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us.”
Lopez shares two kids — 13-year-old twins Max and Emme — with ex-husband Marc Anthony, to whom she was married from 2004 to 2014.
Meanwhile, Affleck has three children — Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 9 — he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, whom he was married to from 2005 to 2018.
“It’s beautiful the way it feels very different than it was years ago,” Lopez told People of her and Affleck’s evolved romance. “There’s more of an appreciation and a celebration for it, which is nice. It was, ‘Oh wow, we’re not used to this and it’s really beautiful.’”
She added, “But also we’re at a different point in our lives and who we were then and what we’ve done in our lives since then.”
