Former NFL player Geno Hayes in hospice care with liver complications

Former NFL linebacker Geno Hayes remains under hospice care for liver complications and “fighting for his life”. His high school football coach told USA Today.

The 33-year-old Hayes played for the Buccaneers, Bears and Jaguars during his 33-year NFL career. He was a sixth-round draft pick out of Florida State and replaced Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks as the Buccaneers’ starting wingside linebacker in 2009, when he had the best season of his career.

“Geno in need of prayer.” He is fighting for his life, ”said high school coach Frankie Carroll that Hayes had a visit at his mother’s home in Walda last Sunday. “It’s hard. Geno is a fun-loving boy.”

Hayes finished his NFL career with 401 tackles, 10 sacks, six forced fumbles, six interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. In other words, he was a nose for football.
