BALTIUM – The Yankees didn’t call Davey Garcia until they needed a sixth starter – and it’s very fitting that Monday night was like a right-hander pitch.
The 21-year-old right-hander did not reason that Yankins had lost to the Orioles – a sluggish offense and poor baseline had a lot to do with it – but Garcia did not claim a claim for a rotation spot.
After the game, he was given the option to return to an alternate site in Scranton to open a location for another pitcher. Michael is eligible to return Tuesday after being sent to King.
Garcia gave Cedric Mullins a long homer, unloading at a speed of 92 mph on Garcia’s second pitch of the game, reaching Utaw Street beyond the seats at right.
In the second, Freddie Galvis drilled an RBI double to left-center, first scoring a Pedro Severino goal to give Baltimore a 2–0 lead.
But Garcia managed to fight through a tough fourth inning without giving up another run in a 4–2 loss at Camden Yards.
“He got into some trouble and he made some pitches when he had to,” Aaron Boone said. “He did his job and gave us a chance. We just can’t mount enough [offense]”
Garcia’s outing ended after 65 pitches and four innings.
He called it “a learning experience” [and] A competitor too.
“I felt like I had to fight on every pitch,” Garcia said through the interpreter.
Operated in a 2-for-36 slump, Clint Frazier started against a right-hander on Monday and went twice.
“He definitely struggled there for a couple of weeks,” Boone said. He said, I thought he had something stronger in batting [Sunday]. … I’m seeing some progress with him.
Boone again pointed to Frazier’s “really good strike-zone knowledge”. He is not a man who gets chased a lot. He has tremendous batting. He is very strong. He is a strong, strong friend. For him, it’s about having a game plan and understanding what the team and pitchers are trying to do. Make sure you get your ‘A’ swing and are in a position to do so. “
Aaron Hicks was back in the lineup on Sunday after tightening his back, but went 0-for-4. Hicks has been largely unproductive from the left side of the plate and was ranked seventh in the order.
** Since returning from Scranton, Ford has also been sporting mustaches. “We did it as a joke at an alternate venue,” he said. “The first guy called was definitely a bearded.
