State Senate’s Andrea Stewart-Cousins calls Cuomo to resign

State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said Sunday that Gov. Andrew Quomo “should resign” as the number of sexual harassment accusers against the government – a sentiment that State Assembly Majority Carl Karl Hettie appeared to echo Granted.

In a brief statement released shortly after a press briefing, in which Cuomo vowed to step down, Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers) cited not only the mushroom sexual harassment scandal, but others including a looping federal investigation on the Cuomo administration Black eyes account for coronavirus deaths in nursing homes.

Stewart-Cousins said, “Every day there is another account that is away from the government’s business.” “We have questions about sexual harassment, a toxic work environment, loss of credibility around COVID-19 nursing home data, and the creation of a major infrastructure project.

“New York is still in the midst of this epidemic and still faces its social, health and economic impacts,” she continued. “We need to rule without daily distraction. Governor Cuomo should resign for the good of the state. “

Hetty (D-Bronx) followed up with a statement of his own in which he signaled agreement with Stewart-Cousins’ remarks – but apparently stopped short of resigning.

“The allegations related to the governor that have been reported in recent weeks are deeply disturbing, and there is no place for the government, the workplace, or anywhere else,” Hettie said. “I also share the sentiment of Stewart-Cousins, most of the Senate leaders, to learn about the Governor’s ability to lead this state.

“We have many challenges to address, and I think it’s time for the governor to seriously consider whether he can effectively meet the needs of the people of New York.”

Stewart-Cousins said last week – when Cuomo’s accusers numbered three: Lindsey Boylan, Charlotte Bennett and Anna Ruch – that the governor would have to step down if the number rose any more.

Two more accused – former partners Ana Lis and Karen Hinton – came forward on Saturday.

Stewart-Cousins previously stated that further action should hinge on the findings of an investigation into the allegations by State Attorney General Letitia James.

Cuomo has apologized to some of the women for making inappropriate remarks, but allegedly denied inappropriate physical contact by all women except Bennett.

The Cuomo administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
