LeBron James hears the geriatric chatter about his retooled Lakers roster.
In a since-deleted tweet, James demanded critics keep that same energy throughout the season.
“Keep talking about my squad, our personnel ages, the way he plays, he says injured, we’re past our time in this league, etc etc etc,” James wrote Wednesday, after the Lakers acquired a number of veterans in free agency, including 37-year-old Carmelo Anthony and 32-year-old Russell Westbrook
“Do me one favor PLEASE!!!! And I mean PLEASE!!! Keep that same narrative ENERGY when it begins! That’s all I ask,” the 36-year-old James continued, adding the hashtag, “ThankYou,” and his signature crown emoji.
It was unclear why James deleted the fiery tweet about the Lakers roster, which has an average age of 32.4 years old — not only the oldest team at the moment but also one of the oldest of all-time, according to SB Nation.
“Personally, I love @kingjames tweet. I’m still trying to figure out why he deleted it,’” ESPN personality Steven A. Smith tweeted after SportsCenter shared a screengrab of the message.
Former NBA star-turned-ESPN-personality Richard Jefferson jokingly responded to LeBron’s missive, “If you insist!!!! It would be my pleasure!!!!”
Jefferson, 41, won a championship with James in Cleveland in 2016, and the pair have remained close.
James, Anthony and Westbrook have 49 seasons of NBA experience combined, and that’s not even including other recent veteran acquisitions in Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, Kent Bazemore and Dwight Howard.
