California murder suspect mistakenly released from prison

Authorities said a suspect in California was mistakenly released from prison on Tuesday.

Steven Manzo, who was charged with murder last March, was wrongly released on Monday because of his paperwork, two law enforcement sources reported Los Angeles Times.

The newspaper reported that the 23-year-old was released from the county jail at 2:12 pm Tuesday and was traced 30 minutes later.

Deputies sought assistance from Los Angeles police to take Manzo back into custody, but they avoided being arrested again. His search ended at around 5 pm, NBC Los Angeles reported.

A lawyer dismissed Monday and then dismissed murder charges against Manzo because of a procedural issue – that he had not conducted a preliminary hearing in a timely manner, a source told the Los Angeles Times.

But he was mistakenly sprung from the county jail, for the reason that his case was dismissed.

“After a lengthy review, it was determined that he should not have been released”, Long Beach police said in a statement to NBC Los Angeles. “The LASD established a periphery, but they were not able to take him into custody. Our department will work with local agencies to make every effort to locate Manzo to detain him. “

The Los Angeles Times reported that Manzo of Hawaii Gardens is facing a murder charge in the July 2018 fatal shooting of Salvador Corrales, 24, who was found dead in his car.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inquired about Manzo’s release to Long Beach Police. A message seeking comment from the department did not return in the early hours of Wednesday.
