The Mets are taking a chance on a reeling reliever in an attempt to bolster their bullpen.

The club claimed veteran lefty Brad Hand off waivers on Thursday, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed, after the former Nationals closer was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays earlier in the week.

Hand began the year with the Nationals, with whom he recorded 21 saves, before being dealt to the Blue Jays at the trade deadline. But the 31-year-old struggled with Toronto, posting a 7.27 ERA in 11 games.

The move was the first by team president Sandy Alderson since he assumed GM duties for Zack Scott, who was placed on administrative leave earlier Thursday after pleading not guilty for driving while intoxicated.
