A car crash on Long Island left a 19-year-old dead and two other teens fighting for their lives, police said Tuesday.
The fatal accident happened just before 10 p.m. Monday when Erick Alvarado was driving his 2005 Honda Civic with three passengers on the Long Island Expressway and struck a 2020 Mazda SUV near exit 49S in Melville, cops said.
Both drivers lost control, veering off the highway and crashing in the woods.
One of Alvarado’s passengers, Josue Melendez-Florez, 19, of Hicksville, was rushed to Plainview Hospital but could not be saved, police said.
The other passengers in the Honda — Kevin Florez, 14, and Cristian Florez, 18, both of Hicksville — were in critical condition Tuesday at Nassau University Medical Center and Stony Brook University Hospital, respectively, according to cops.
Alvarado and the other driver, Shadman Sami, 24, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
