Michigan coach Juwan Howard was kicked out during a heated skirmish with Maryland

Michigan college basketball head coach Juwan Howard was ruled out during a time in the second half of a 79–66 win over Maryland.

During a break in the Big Ten tournament quarter-final game, Howard was seen pointing to the Maryland bench. Maryland coach Mark Turgan responded, and ignited a skirmish, where Howard charged the opposing team and needed to be held back by his coaching staff and players.

According to the Detroit Free PressOnce Howard finds out that he can be kicked out of the game, he gets angry. He was then thrown out, and Turin received a technical dishonesty.

In a press conference after the game, Howard said that he was trying to have an argument with Reiff, but Claire said that Turgen told her, “Juwan I’m not going to talk to you! You never talk to me again!” Howard said as Turgeon accused him.

“I was raised by Grandma and Chicago,” Howard said. “When a man accuses you, you go into defense mode … When he accuses me, I reacted.”

Assistant coach Phil Martelli took over for Howard and Michigan raced to victory after being down by double digits in the first half of the game. They will face the winner of Ohio State vs. Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal on Saturday.
