You can exhale. The Yankees survived. They continue breathing into the postseason in part because of the man who many fans do not believe has a pulse.

It is not Aaron Boone the person who bothers diehard Yankees fans, but the mathematical equations that hover over his head. He does not have enough feel, the criticism usually goes, and is guided too much by the analytics disciples around the team. The notion that Boone is a robot who ignores the flow of the game for the right stats-based move is the spiritual successor to Joe Girardi’s binder, which many fans believed governed the Yankees’ strategy (and governed it poorly).

It follows, then, that when the puppet strings pulled by the nerds work out for the best that Boone the marionette deserves a bit of credit, right?
