Italian teacher dies hours after receiving AstraZeneca vaccine

Prosecutors in Italy have launched a masculine investigation after the death of a music teacher there hours after the controversial AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was found.

57-year-old Sandro Tognatti went to his hometown of Byla on Saturday afternoon and flew to Italy with his wife Simona Rousey that night with high fever.

He said that the next morning he called an ambulance but the shehnai could not be saved.

According to the Italian wire service Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA), prosecutors investigated her death later that day in the northern Italian region of Piedmont.

He also seized nearly 400,000 shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the same batch.

So far, officials have insisted that there is still no direct connection between Totanatti’s death and his shot.

Prosecutor Teresa Angela Camelio said in a statement that the criminal investigation is “absolutely sure” that the death “cannot be attributed to the aforementioned vaccination”.

Italy on Monday joined the growing band of most European countries, temporarily suspending the UK vaccine amid alarming news of blood clots among some participants.

They joined France and Germany on Monday, with the likes of Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Luxembourg and Thailand already suspending its use.

AstraZeneca – who developed the shot with the University of Oxford – says the vaccine is safe, an emphasis supported by the World Health Organization.

The vaccine is yet to be approved for use in the US – but the drugmaker is reportedly pushing for emergency use approval by the end of this month.
