“Winning” NFL free agency can be defined in many ways in a given lineage. The 2021 edition kicked off on Monday afternoon is no different.
A team can have a lot of money under the salary cap with some core needs, and it can cost them well in some form or the other. Another team could spend enough to keep its own leading free agents this year and beyond. Another team can make some calculated moves, focusing on good quality and quality vs. quantity. Yet another team can only win by not overspeed on overspeed players.
People who are paying in all of this – don’t forget those players. Some are fortunate to remain in positions of high demand, which help them maximize their new contract values.
On the flip side of all that defines who “loses” in free agency. Although the final grade and decision will not be determined until an assessment is made of how the players perform, there is room for quick feedback. Here is the best and worst agency ever:

Winner: Tamta Bay Buccaneers

Bud Dupree was a decent way to crowd the pass and Denico Autry would promote defensive line rotation. But he lost two key pieces to Ryan Tanehill when the Patriots signed Smith and the Jets signed Davis. He also released Adam Humphries well before free agency. The Titans are now desperate for better complementary receiving pieces from No. 1 wideout AJ Brown.
Winner: Top Tight End
