NYC Homeless Shelter Stumbled Badly During Battle: Police

A 33-year-old man who lived in a Queens homeless shelter was stabbed and murdered by a fellow resident this week, Cops said.

The victim and another 28-year-old man were fighting at the Bailey Pond Park, Jamaica’s Garden Inn & Suites Hotel, around 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, where some of the rooms were being used by the city’s Homeless Services Department, police he said .

The victim was stabbed to the chest, back and neck and taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was declared brought dead.

A 40-year-old security guard was also stabbed in the right leg and right arm as he tried to break up the fight, police said. He was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

And the suspect, who had slipped in the leg, was also taken to Jamaica in a stable condition. He is in police custody but was not immediately charged.

A knife and a box cutter were recovered, police said.

Police said that in late January of 2020, 54-year-old Jose de la Cruz was stabbed to death outside the hotel.

Police said La Cruz was around the corner from his apartment on 135th Avenue.

It was not clear whether someone from the hotel was involved with the stab.
