The best controllers for Monster Hunter Rise are these massive Joy-Cons

I have owned a Nintendo Switch since launch, and the combination of Joy-Cons paired with the included Pro-Controller is enough to enjoy most games. Two sets of controllers maintain the vision that this console can provide the same experience when held in a large living room TV or between my hands.

However, some games disrupt that magic, and the game that breaks the illusion for me Monster Hunter Uday.

Not because the game is prone to performance problems between the console’s two modes. In fact, Monster Hunter Uday Seems to perform easily in both configurations, no matter where I play it. its How I play the game that begs for a change.

In docked mode, the Pro controller is the best way to play. The large gamepad makes it easy to manipulate complex play styles with the game’s many shortcut commands, new Silkbind attacks, and the best weapons. Monster Hunter Uday Like a switch ax or bow. Transfer between D-pads is easy on many Pro buttons, analog sticks, buttons, and the larger Pro controller – especially with years of muscle memory on a similar gamepad.

In hand mode on the small Joy-Cons, dancing with my thumb and forefinger felt a bit more cumbersome. since Monster Hunter Uday Uses both trigger buttons enough, I often had to place my index and middle finger in an awkward position to hit both of them accurately. This is an uncomfortable catch that I have never adopted for any other sport. It’s a shame because the small controller is the only thing that brings me back to the reality I’m playing Monster Hunter Uday On a small mobile device.

It doesn’t need to feel that way, though.

My way of making Growth I have the same feeling in my hands as I have with my larger TV and a Pro Controller with a larger set of controllers: the Hori Split Pad Pro.

What is Split Pad Pro?

The Hori Split Pad is a pair of Pro controllers that attach to the edge of the switch, like the Joy-Cons. Each half of the Split Pad Pro mimics the left and right sides of a controller layout similar to Nintendo’s Pro controller.

For a sense of scale, each Half Hori’s composition is roughly the same size as the two Joy-Kansas. Separated from the console and placed near a Pro controller, they are approximately the same size. Gamepads are also as wide as switches.

What you get for an extra addition is a pair of controllers that mimic the proportions of the Pro controller, except they are hanging the edges of your switch. (Despite their large footprints, these controllers do not have batteries, so they have to be tether to your console.)

When I first connected them to my switch, I felt as if I had made a mistake. I wasn’t sure if the bulk size was worth the prospect of a more comfortable experience. Within minutes, those fears dissipated. I love my elder son.

Is Hori Split Pad Pro worth it?

Last year, my colleague Ras Frushtiq wrote a fascinating Hori Split Pad Pro review that I rejected at the time, but before that I would have faced a game worth slapping two aircraft carriers on the side of my switch. In other words, I did not start playing monster Hunter Growth.

I have fairly large hands, and as an experienced Monster Hunter player I knew that this game would require a little mastery. With this in mind, I spent the first few hours docking the game and using my Pro Controller. Once i started feeling more comfortable Monster Hunter UdayThe new mechanics, like the excellent wirebug system, made me want to enjoy the game casually on the couch or in bed. Then I ran into a problem.

I noticed that it was difficult to hunt for something more challenging with the smaller Joy-Cons. The muscle memory I built on the Pro Controller did not translate as smoothly as I expected.

For example, as a lance player, I need to do split-second reactions to prevent big attacks, counterattack, and swap through items. To do this, I feel constantly with shoulder buttons. On the Pro Controller, there is enough distance between the four buttons on the top of the controller so that they can be easily hit. On a Joy-Con, the shoulder buttons feel tight. It is very difficult for them to be hit in succession without awkwardly holding the switch.

I really wanted to find a way to enjoy my time Monster Hunter Uday While in handheld mode, but with Joy-Cons controlling the game it was not. Hori Split Pad Pro turned out to be the solution I was looking for.

This large pair of controllers made Monster Hunter’s joy feel more accessible at any time. With this, I don’t have to compromise portability for playability. I can comfortably and confidently play the game in handheld mode without an awkward grip. Split Pad Pro gives me the experience I get with the Pro Controller, but I have to keep the switch in my hands.

I also like the split buttons of Split Pad Pro.

Each half of the controllers comes with a program button on the back that I can hit with my ring finger. They are unsuitable for any button on either half, and they move around monsters and are particularly helpful when performing specific commands.

Thanks to the two extra buttons, I can place both thumbs on the analog thumb while using my ring finger to hit the critical button which allows me to quickly fix or trigger the shortcut. I no longer have to let go of analog sticks from time to time – and potentially lose sight of my monster – to hit an important face button or shortcut on the D-pad. There is also a turbo button functionality, but I found no use in it Monster Hunter Uday.

I have become so accustomed to using these back buttons that playing the game in handheld mode is now my favorite way Monster Hunter Uday.

Beef controllers make the switch too large for my Chrome Industries backpack which seems to be designed to carry the Telter-Made in its front pocket. The same is about every Nintendo Switch carrying case that exists. There are many Hori Split Pad Pro carrying cases on the market, but you may find that analog sticks and D-pads seem to account for the extra vertical height.

Best Handheld Controller for Monster Hunter Rise

The Hori Split Pad Pro will undoubtedly make your Nintendo Switch larger and silvered. What you lose in smoothness, you gain in functionality. With Hori Split Pad Pro, Monster Hunter Uday I feel just as good in my hands as it does being with my living room TV. I don’t think I would play other switch games in handheld mode without it now.
