Alexander Serpico, 41, was found lying in bed at his Wall Street home around 1pm on Monday afternoon and was pronounced dead shortly after.

He was the son of Frank Serpico, who exposed corruption within the NYPD in the late 1960s and into the early 70s, leading to the creation of the Kannap Commission, police sources said.

The retired detective gained national attention following the release of the 1973 film “Serpico”, which was based on Peter Maas’s book and starred Al Pacino as a detective of the same name.

Police sources said empty envelopes of an unknown substance were found in the son’s apartment. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
