Amani Toomer Talks Frustrating, Sad Giants State

The Giants are in a different class from 99 percent of the rest of the NFL… and not in a good way. They are losing and getting embarrassed on Sundays. Losses to the Broncos by 14, the Cowboys by 24 and the Rams by 27. They are 1-5 and hope is bleak. They have a chance to stop the bleeding at least for a week when they welcome the 3-3 Panthers before a frustrated MetLife Stadium crowd.

To preview the game against the Panthers and discuss the sad state of Big Blue, we present to you a new episode of the “Blue Rush” podcast with Lawrence Tynes and Paul Schwartz. We chat with the all-time leading Giants receiver Amani Toomer, who kept it as candid as possible on the state of the franchise in a must-listen interview.

Blue Rush Podcast with Paul, Lawrence & Jake:

  • DEFENSE DEMISE: The defense has been bad this season. Jabrill Peppers has only played around 50 percent of snaps. Could he be traded before the deadline? He clearly is not happy and it’s hard to lead when you are not playing well.
  • OFFENSE: Jason Garrett needs to get tight ends more involved. Giants have got virtually nothing from that position this season. Garrett used to kill the Giants with Cowboys tight ends and has not done the same here. Offensive line could be a problem with Andrew Thomas at least out for the next three games.
  • GIANTS-PANTHERS PREVIEW/PREDICTIONS: Can the Giants get a win finally? The whole crew says Big Blue loses, except for me. Fans could be restless with another loss. I have seen Sam Darnold play enough at MetLife Stadium and think he sees ghosts and the Giants improve to 2-5.

Amani Toomer Interview:
Former Giants wide receiver (1996-2008), Super Bowl 42 champion

  • STATE OF THE GIANTS: Toomer kept it real on the state of the team. Does not like to hear how good practice was. Go win football games. Sad to see the the Giants like this right now.
  • DANIEL JONES: Don’t know yet if he’s the guy. He’s shown nothing to make you fall in love with him.
  • JOE JUDGE: Likes that there’s no excuses with him, but this is a performance-based business. If you’re not winning, this group won’t stay together.
  • OTHER TEAMS SUCCESS: Other teams win with injuries. The Giants don’t. Everyone talks about the Saquons and top players, but they don’t have depth. Giants are spending the same amount of money and can’t win.
