Anthony Davis made fun of Spike Lee after winning a physical overtime fight against Naik on Tuesday night.
After an electric performance at home, which left him “hurting”, Davis retracted the moment he started playing after Lee. The big man – celebrating the crucial win with LeBron James, who missed the matchup to rest his right ankle – mocked Lee by showing him off.
The duo made it known that they heard loud buzz around the Knicks, who are now tied at No. 6 with the Hawks and Heat in the Eastern Conference following the loss. New York won 13 of its last 16 games.
After Los Angeles pulled overtime, cameras caught Davis smiling, his hands up to his ears, while Lee, facing a poker, saw his way. Meanwhile, James suits Lee with his own clandestine enclosure, which was embellished in nix blue and orange.
Davis, who is still charged after missing nine weeks due to injury, finished the night with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists in 43 minutes of action. In the post-game press conference, Davis said that he tightened up against New York’s elite defense.
Tuesday’s win marked back-to-back victories for the Lakers, who beat the Suns, 123-110, on Sunday night. The overtime win overtook both the Blazers and the Mavericks a game behind LA as they try and shake off the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference – and survive a dangerous play-in tournament.
“We are a very confident ball club,” Davis said after the game. “Like an injury took us back this season … When we play Lucker basketball, we can compete with anybody and if it means playing to play in the play-ins … then we OK with that. It makes a better story anyway. “
James is set to return to the lineup on Wednesday when the Lakers play the Rockets at home – the reigning champions will enjoy their banner ceremony on the same night. James has missed 25 of the last 27 matches, while he recovered from high ankle pressure in March.
