President Biden invited a group of “Dreamers” to the Oval Office Friday in a bid to extend the Obama-era program to protect immigrants that were brought to the US as children.
The six Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, also known as “Dreamers,” met with Biden as he faces a surge of migrants at the southern border with Mexico.
The “Dreamers” now work in health care, education and agriculture and spoke to Biden about their experiences working on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a statement issued by the White House. It was Biden’s second meeting with a group of DACA recipients. The first took place on a recent trip to Georgia.
Maria Praeli, who describes herself as an “undocumented American” and was among the White House guests tweeted photos of the meeting using the hashtag #WeAreHome.
One of the guests, Astou Thiane arrived in the US from Senegal when she was seven years old but said she didn’t know she was an illegal immigrant until she filled out her college application.
