Chris Weidman suffered a severe injury during UFC 261

Chris Weidman suffered a terrible leg attack on the first kick of his UFC Fight on Saturday night.

The Long Island native kicked rival Uriah Hall just below his knee in the opening seconds of his middleweight bout at UFC 261, and he collapsed in the mat shortly after the lower part of his right leg was slammed. Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight, and Weidman was eventually ejected from the Octagon. Hall was declared the winner by TKO.

“I feel so bad for him,” Hall said in his post-fight interview. “I hope she is well. If you guys are watching then I wish her family well.”

It was the 36-year-old Weidman’s first fight since victory in August 2020, and he has already lost more than a year of his career from 2017-18 due to a torn ligament in his thumb. He is no stranger to horrific leg injuries during fights. MMA legend Anderson Silva killed Weidman in the second round of his middleweight championship fight at UFC 168 in 2013.

“Whatever rank I am for the future, if he gets along well, I give him the credit for this fight and I hope he can come back from it,” Hall said.
