David Peterson reacted extensively to the Mets after Rocky’s debut

PHILADELPHIA – Three batters early Sunday, it looked like it could be a night of little work for Mets starter David Peterson.

After the second-year leftie was tagged for a leadoff home run, he allowed the next two batters to reach a safe spot. Peterson rebelled from that rocky start to create the next 15 outside records without being allowed to score another run. His five innings off a one-run ball ultimately went unscathed as the Mets recovered from a late bullpen-induced deficit and then a wild 8-7 win in the final inning with favorable video review to help the Citizens win at Bank Park Puppies.

Peterson, 25, was left for a 445-foot home run, which was previously left-center of Phillies head man Andrew McCutchen. Given his initial tour of Mets pitching coach by Mets coach Jeremy Hefner, he followed up with Rice Hawkins before Bryce Harper singled.

Peterson responded by striking out JT Realmuto before secondhand Jeff McNeill smacked in the middle of Alec Boeem’s sabotage and left for Francisco Lindor to make a short list in between, allowing an inning. The double play of the finale began.

Peterson (4.81 ERA) had rushed for just two more singles on his five frames and finished with eight strikes, five fans in the second and third innings.

He went on to take a 2–1 lead after the fifth (88 pitches), but reliever Miguel Castro made an error and landed Didi Gregorius in the sixth as a three-run homer. The Mets pitched six plates against three relievers – including recent instigator Jose Alvarado, who was appealing a three-game suspension for an 8-4 lead in eight games.

Phyllis scored three runs against Edwin Diaz in the ninth edition, and appeared to tie the score, but Hockins’ three-run homer was overridden through right replays and 8-7 before Juris Familia’s 8-7. Two-run double ruled for. Bryce Harper for the finals.
