DY Blasio says NYPD increases previous overtime budget

The NYPD has blown its overtime budget into the fiscal calendar with more than two months to go, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Wednesday.

The department had already spent $ 253 million of the $ 254 million for additional fee work, according to the mayor.

“The NYPD understands that they are under a mandate from me and the city council to reduce overtime and they are reducing overtime and they will reduce it further, that’s the bottom line,” de Blasio made a budget Said after being grilled at installation if NYPD exceeds each year.

He said, “We are very committed and there is a lot of time left in this financial year.

Overtime costs could still come in half from what the NYPD spent in the prior fiscal year, when it hit a record $ 837 million.

According to De Blasio, the NYPD spent $ 721 million on uniform members of service and $ 115 million on civilian personnel in fiscal year 2019.

The reduced budget for police overtime was initiated to transfer funds from police departments in the wake of the death of George Floyd due to the COVID budget crisis and nationwide agitation.
