Former Mate Matt Harvey gets first win in almost two years

MIAMI – Trey Mencini and Freddie Galvis each hit a solo homer in the third inning, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Miami Marlins 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Matt Harvey (1-1) conceded three runs in five innings for his first win since July 13, 2019 with the Angels. Baltimore won despite two errors and was outscored 11-9.

“It was a bit of a sloppy game,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “It wasn’t our best game, but we won.”

Harvey, who gave eight hit films, but none went, struggled to remember his final victory.

“To be honest, I didn’t know if it was going to happen again,” the right hand said. “And then how I was throwing the ball in spring training and the final couple of outings, some hope that it was back.”

The Orioles’ right field Anthony Santner had to help at the club house after spraining his left ankle in the first innings. Santander wound up returning based on singles and pickup throws. X-rays were negative.

Mancini hit his fourth homer and Galvis scored his second. Both stopped Niko Niedert (0-1), who allowed five runs in three innings.

“I missed a few pitches,” Niedert said. “Not being able to get people off, expanded AB and the pitches I made a mistake with were able to capitalize.”

Galvis added a run-scoring single in the eighth. Rio Ruiz hit the first two-three, Oroles three-run two-run.

The Orioles’ sixth pitcher, Cesare Valdez, retained all four batsmen for his fourth save, taking his ERA to 0.96.

“I feel great every time I see him coming from the bullpen,” Mancini said. “He seems very silly to a lot of people.”

Miami’s Miguel Rojas set a career high with four hits and scored twice. Adam Duvall took two runs.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly had his bench vacated in the seventh inning, and pitcher Pablo Lopez struck out and struck out two in the ninth.

“I was trying not to have a strike, but that’s what happened,” Lopez said. “But at least I came out swinging. I did not see a fastball. I saw three very bad changes. “

The Orioles came into the game with a record of 8–26 (.235) vs. the Marlins, their worst win percentage against any team. Which also included the drifting of four matches last year.
