Georgia couple asks the thief to return the ashes of the infant’s son

A Georgia couple was devastated after the thieves stole their U-Haul moving truck – carrying an urn filled with their baby son’s ashes.

Ben and Cassandra Benton were sleeping at a LaQuinta hotel in Covington on Wednesday, when U-Haul stole all of their property from the parking lot, WAGA reported.

A military family, they were moving to Barkdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, Today.com reported.

Benton told his six-month-old son, Wyatt, today, “It feels like we’re losing him again.”

The family told TODAY that the child was born prematurely and died of a brain infection after being hospitalized for a long time.

The van was later abandoned in a park 30 minutes from the hotel. The thieves had taken everything inside except a few black plastic bags full of clothes.

According to WAGA, surveillance video showed a dark SUV and a gray car in front of the truck outside the hotel at around 1:20 am on Wednesday.

The man, wearing a gray hoodie, got out of the SUV and approached to get inside the truck and drive, the outlet reported.

Police say they are searching for at least three suspects.

“We are undoubtedly grateful that our family is fine, but that was a big part of our lives,” Mummy said of Wyatt.

A reward is being placed today by the Covington Police for any information leading to an arrest.

“I just beg, whoever gave her heart,” Mummy told TODAY.

“Imagine that it is their own child or family member whom they love and think about how they will feel. Please return it. We do not even care that if they leave him somewhere, someone will recognize him and return it to us.
